MolloyEngineering achieve sustainability goals with the help of Smart Ease

MolloyEngineering, based in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, is a leading name in steel fabrication, CNC machining, laser cutting and welding. Since its founding in 1983, the company’s growth has been driven by the vision and values of founder TJ Molloy – chief among them, “a future where engineering solutions not only meet the needs of today but also safeguard the resources for future generations.”

At a time when sustainability is often more of a buzzword than anything else, MolloyEngineering walks the talk. Just recently, the management team took a significant step in reducing their carbon emissions by kicking off the company’s clean energy transition.

In late 2023, MolloyEngineering engaged Start Solar, one of Northern Ireland’s leading commercial solar installers, to visit their facilities in Lurgan and assess their roof’s suitability for a PV solar system.

Industry: Manufacturing

Channel Partner: Start Solar

Solar system size: 58.4kW

Equipment:

  • 139x Jinko solar panels
  • 1x Solis inverters

Payment Plan term: 5 years

Considering the business’s energy profile and orientation of the roof, Start Solar’s Andrew McKee recommended installing 139 Jinko solar panels integrated with a Solis inverter. The 58.4kW solar system would allow for significant solar generation and reduced grid electricity consumption.

The Start Solar team presented two payment options to MolloyEngineering: pay for the installation upfront or use a £0 upfront Smart Ease Payment Plan.

After weighing up both options, the decision was easy.

A Smart Ease Payment Plan allowed MolloyEngineering to:

  • Preserve their capital and put it to use in profit-generating activities instead.
  • Invest in the best solar equipment for their operational needs, rather than the most affordable option to suit their budgeting needs.
  • Pay for the system over time, using the monthly energy-bill savings generated by their switch to solar.

The win

One year later, MolloyEngineering’s solar system is ticking along well. It has helped the company achieve both their sustainability and cost-cutting targets.

Best of all, by using a Smart Ease Payment Plan, the cost of the investment has been manageable – a simple and business-savvy reallocation of capital.
