Solar + Battery – a perfect pairing at Old Oak Farm

Nestled in the picturesque Somerset countryside, Old Oak Farm is a boutique, award-winning wedding and event venue. Since 2011, countless happy couples have chosen this charming location to celebrate their special day.

Over the years, the venue has undergone significant upgrades, including the construction of the Old Oak Barn, a main reception area that now comfortably accommodates over 200 guests. But with every upgrade, Old Oak Farm has remained true to its rustic charm, incorporating reclaimed and locally sourced materials to preserve its natural beauty.

In line with its eco-conscious ethos, the Old Oak Farm team decided last year to invest in solar energy to reduce their carbon footprint and lower energy costs.

After assessing the site, commercial solar experts Go Low Carbon recommended a solar system integrated with battery storage. While a battery system requires a higher initial investment, it maximises self-consumption and long-term savings, making it a more efficient and sustainable choice.

To make the investment more manageable, Go Low Carbon suggested financing the system with a Smart Ease Payment Plan. This flexible option allowed Old Oak Farm to install the solar and battery system with zero upfront capital, paying for it through affordable monthly instalments. This approach enabled them to preserve cash reserves for other profit-driving areas of the business while benefiting from immediate energy savings.

In late November 2024, Go Low Carbon completed the installation of a 24kW system comprising of 55 Trina solar panels on the roof of the Old Oak Barn, along with one Fox EES hybrid inverter and seven Fox ECS4800 batteries.

The system is projected to generate over £5,000 in energy savings within the first year alone, amounting to nearly £150,000 in savings over the next 25 years.

Beyond financial benefits, Old Oak Farm will significantly reduce its environmental impact, preventing approximately 128,482 kg of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere. This reduction is equivalent to taking four diesel cars off the road or the annual carbon absorption of 245 trees.

By embracing solar energy with battery storage, Old Oak Farm continues to lead by example in sustainable event hosting, proving that luxury and eco-consciousness can go hand in hand.
