When Kelly Dooley joined Smart Ease as a Sales Manager in October 2023, she was only the second UK-based staff member on the team. This was also her first sales role in the fintech and renewable sectors.
In one short year, Kelly has become fully versed in all aspects of commercial decarbonisation and has helped forge Smart Ease’s path in the UK.
Her first anniversary seemed a fitting point to check in with her on her experience so far.
You’ve been at Smart Ease for a year now. What are your top-line thoughts?
Very shortly after I joined, I attended Solar & Storage Live 2023 and was speaking with installers and industry leaders about Smart Ease and what we do. That gives you an idea of how I started – getting thrown in at the deep end!
This experience forced me to learn quickly. I think I’ve learned more in this past year than I ever have in previous roles. After getting immersed in the commercial solar industry, I can happily say I really enjoy it. It’s an exciting place to be right now, as it’s consistently evolving. It also helps that the work I’m doing aligns with my values.
I’ve really enjoyed working at Smart Ease. I feel a strong connection being part of a global company, and since we’re just starting out in the UK, I feel like I can have a say in how the business develops here.
What’s been a highlight of your time at Smart Ease?
The biggest highlight has been seeing how much the brand has grown in just a year. We just wrapped up this year’s Solar & Storage Live, and hearing the feedback now compared to where we were a year ago has been incredibly encouraging and exciting.
What we’re doing in the UK is truly unique, and a lot of installers are learning about what we can offer them and seem quite impressed. It’s nice to be part of something that’s growing and to feel like I’m making a mark on the market!
What is the best thing about being in a sales role?
The thrill of closing a deal! That’s an amazing feeling. Plus, knowing that we’re solving problems – not just for Smart Ease, but also for our Channel Partners and customers.
What’s something that has surprised you about the commercial decarbonisation industry?
Probably just how interconnected and fast-moving the industry is. New technologies and legislation are constantly coming into play, so you have to keep up!
How do you relax or wind down after a big work week?
I’m a gym-goer. I’m there every day at 5:30 a.m. – it’s the best thing for my mind and helps me to de-stress. But when the weekend comes around, that glass of wine is very much needed!
If you could live in one place, where would it be?
In a cabin in the woods with my husband. That’s the dream and hopefully part of our five-year plan.
If you could give one piece of advice to a Channel Partner, what would it be?
Always, always, always include a funding option from the first conversation! This will eliminate price objections and give the customer options right from the start, saving you time and a million back-and-forths down the track.
