St Peters Farm in Didcot, Oxfordshire, is a small, family-run campsite that has become a favourite destination for young families looking to escape the city.
In early 2025, the owner, Jonathan Slade, decided to invest in solar power to cut both his energy bills and carbon footprint. He reached out to Peak Solar and Electrical Services for advice on an effective and affordable solution.
After assessing the site and the business’s needs, Peak Solar recommended a 44 kW solar system paired with 61.4 kWh of battery storage to maximise solar consumption. The system would supply around 45% of the campsite’s total electricity needs. By reducing grid reliance so significantly, Jonathan could look forward to greater energy independence, around 10 tonnes of avoided CO₂ each year, and substantial long-term energy savings.
The only challenge was the upfront cost.

Fortunately, that was easily overcome with a Smart Ease Payment Plan. With no capital outlay required, Jonathan could invest in solar and storage without impacting St Peters Farm’s cash reserves. The cost of the project was spread over manageable monthly instalments, similar to paying regular energy bills.
This project shows how the cost of solar does not need to be a barrier for businesses ready to start their energy transition.
